What Is COVID-19 RT-PCR Test?

The real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test is the most commonly used test for detection of COVID-19.
This test is primarily based on PCR – a process that repeatedly copies and amplifies the specific genetic fragments of the virus, ensuring that there is enough of a sample to conduct the analysis.
The RT-PCR test starts with a simple swab taken from inside a person’s throat or nose, the most accurate method available for the detection of the COVID-19 virus.

Importance of COVID-19 RT-PCR Test

  • COVID-19 RT-PCR Test is a confirmatory test for the diagnosis of COVID-19 and is considered as a gold-standard test
  • Diagnose asymptomatic and symptomatic cases in the family
  • Eliminate the risk of infection in your home
  • After recovering, individuals may be eligible to donate plasma, a part of their blood

Who Should Undergo COVID-19 RT-PCR Testing?

  • If you have symptoms or you have had exposure to someone with COVID-19, you must undergo COVID-19 RT-PCR testing
  • This is a Government-mandated test for all International and Domestic travellers. If you are travelling soon, you must avail this test; the test reports are valid for 48 hours until your destination. You will receive a certificate and letter of consent to present at the airport
  • This test must be availed by residents in containment zones, healthcare workers, people working in industries and offices, bank staff, security personnel & drivers, etc
  • As per the new guidelines, you no longer require a doctor’s prescription for COVID-19 RT-PCR test, so everyone can avail this test for getting rid of any suspicion regarding the infection

How long will test results take?

The test report will be available in 48 hours of testing.

What Do the Results Mean for You?

What is COVID-19 Detection Profile 1 ?

COVID-19 Detection Profile 1 is a pack of blood and swab tests that help in detecting the presence of coronavirus.
This profile is designed to screen the type of infection – COVID-19, Bacterial or Viral.
This profile is curated to check the severity of your infection to ensure faster treatment.

Importance of COVID-19 Detection Profile 1

  • Thanks to its rapid detection capabilities, patients who test positive can get into isolation faster
  • Eliminate the risk of infection in your home by early detection and isolation
  • Diagnose asymptomatic and symptomatic cases in the family
  • The sensitivity of this test is 83.72% and the specificity is 100%

Who should undergo COVID-19 Detection Profile 1 Testing?

  • All symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals can book this test
  • Everyone who wants to get rid of suspicion regarding the infection can avail this test without a doctor’s prescription
  • This test is fundamental for residents in containment zones, relatives of COVID-19 patients, healthcare workers, and people planning to undergo surgery

How long will test results take ?

The test reports will be available in 2 hours after collecting the sample (We follow BMC protocol for revealing test result).

What do the COVID-19 Detection Profile 1 results mean for you?

Learn About the Causes & Symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Solve Test-Related Queries

Coronaviruses are a group of viruses. A few coronaviruses only affect animals, while others can affect humans. The coronavirus symptoms range from a mild cold to flu-like symptoms to moderate and severe upper-respiratory infections.

Did you know? The SARS epidemic (severe acute respiratory syndrome) was caused by coronavirus as well. Some patients suffer from diarrhoea, as coronavirus is known to affect the gut. The current pandemic is caused by COVID-19.

  • Currently, COVID–19 is spreading majorly from people to people
  • When an infected person coughs or exhales, the infection spreads rapidly through small droplets from their nose or mouth
  • One may directly get infected from coming in contact with the above-stated scenario
  • One may also get infected upon touching these droplets that land on surfaces and objects. Hence, it is advised to avoid touching your face
  • People can get infected with COVID-19 upon breathing in droplets from a person with COVID-19 who coughs out or exhales droplets. Therefore,
it is advised to stay more than 1 meter (3 feet) away from other individuals
  • Fever
  • Shortness of Breath
  • Sneezing & Coughing
  • Headache
  • Sore Throat
  • COVID-19 infection has typical flu-like symptoms
  • The symptoms may begin 2-10 days after initial infection
  • Sneezing, runny nose, fever, fatigue & cough are all symptoms of COVID-19 infections. In certain patients, diarrhoea is reported
  • 1 out of every 6 people who get infected with COVID-19 is severely affected and develops difficulty breathing
  • Elderly people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness
  • People with fever, cough and difficulty breathing should seek medical attention immediately
  • Avoid Shaking Hands
  • Avoid Touching Door Knobs
  • Use Paper Towels
  • Exercise Proper Hand Washing
  • Cover Mouth & Nose When Coughing/Sneezing
  • Make sure you stay at home if you feel sick
  • Avoid handshakes even with known people. Rather use gestures like waving, saying namaste, etc
  • To touch light switches or elevator buttons, make use of your knuckle to ensure minimum contact. To lift anything, use a paper towel, tissue or disposable glove
  • Avoid holding the door handles of bathrooms and commercial doors unless urgent and necessary. Try to open doors with fists or by using your hips as much as you can
  • Make use of disinfectant wipes when touching door handles in stores, grocery carts, etc. for additional safety

COVID-19 is mainly transmitted by coming in contact with respiratory droplets rather than through the air.

Coronavirus can be tested with a nasal swab or a blood test.

Currently, the Coronavirus testing is undertaken by select government institutions including the AIIMS and National Institute of Virology, Pune.

Currently, there is no vaccine or specific treatment for COVID-19. Medical care can help to relieve the symptoms.

Yes. Everyone should wear a mask before leaving their place.

WHO especially recommends the use of masks for people who have symptoms of COVID-19 and for those caring for individuals who have symptoms, such as cough and fever. The use of masks is crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone (at home or in a health care facility). People who are infected with COVID 19 or have flu-like symptoms should wear a mask so that they do not spread the infection.

    Avoid taking the following measures:
  • Smoking
  • Taking traditional herbal remedies
  • Wearing multiple masks
  • Taking self-medication such as antibiotics
  • Please note that in any case, if you have a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, please seek medical
care immediately to reduce the risk of developing a more severe infection

We use STANDARD Q COVID-19 Ag Test kit from SD Biosensor for COVID-19 Antigen testing, which is a part of our COVID Detection Profile 1.

The Antigen test starts with a simple swab taken from inside a person’s throat or nose.
For Shanti Screening Test, we use a person’s blood sample.

The sensitivity of Antigen test, which is a part of COVID Detection Profile 1, is 83.72% and the specificity is 100

  • COVID-19 Antigen Test is a swab test for the diagnosis of COVID-19, whereas COVID Detection Profile 1 is a set of blood and swab tests
  • COVID Detection Profile 1 will not only help you diagnose the presence of COVID-19 infection, it will also help you screen the type of infection – COVID-19, Bacterial or Viral
  • Through this profile, you can check the severity of your infection to ensure faster treatment

We use Thermo Fisher Scientific COVID-19 RT-PCR kit for testing.

The COVID-19 RT-PCR test starts with a simple swab taken from inside a person’s throat or nose.
