Metabolic diseases

The metabolic panel includes testing of metabolic functioning of the body. The tests tend to provide important information about the current status of your metabolism, including the health of your kidneys and liver as well as electrolyte and acid/base balance and levels of blood glucose and blood proteins; to monitor known conditions, such as hypertension, and to monitor the use of medications to check for any kidney- or liver-related side effects

Two types of metabolic panels are performed:

Basic metabolic panel (BMP) – This panel involves tests which checks blood sugar, calcium and electrolytes. Also, does it include tests which check the kidney function like creatininetest.

Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) – In this panel all above tests are included along with tests of cholesterol, protein levels and liver function.
