Panel of Tests for Menopause
Menopause tests are not indicated to all women who go through menopause. But if the women might have symptoms related to premature ovarian failure or other health problems like osteoporosis, they are required to carry out below tests:
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH): This test is performed to know the stage of menopause i.e. if she is approaching, transitioning or has gone through menopause.FSH levels increase after menopause
Estradiol: This is tested to understand whether the menstrual cycle is normal. Estradiol levels decrease after menopause.
Thyroid function testing (free T4 and TSH): This is performed to verify the functioning of the thyroid gland. This is done as thyroid function reduces with age. This helps in two ways as:first, many women in premature menopause are also at a higher risk for thyroid problems and second, many symptoms of thyroid disease overlap with menopausal symptoms.
Anti-mullerian hormone (AMH): This is tested to know the beginning of menopause or when there consideration of loss of fertility.
