Description
- Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common virus for people of all ages; however, a healthy person’s immune system usually keeps the virus from causing illness.
- When a person is infected with CMV, antibodies (proteins) to the virus called IgM develop and stay in the body for the rest of the person’s life. A blood test to detect the antibodies will be positive if the person has had a CMV infection.
