SEPSIS

More than 90,000 Indians lose their lives to Sepsis each year!

Introduction

  • Sepsis is a severe and life-threatening illness, responsible for claiming a million lives worldwide
  • Awareness regarding this condition is extremely low with most people completely ignorant to the warning signs and health impact of this illness.
  • Severe sepsis or septic shock leads to a mortality rate of about 40%-60%, elderly having the highest death rate

Warning Signs and symptoms of sepsis include:

  • A fever outside the range of 96.8oF and 101 oF
  • A source of infection
  • A heart rate over 90 bpm
  • A breath rate of over 20 breaths per minute
  • Sepsis is not treated in time, it can result in organ failure and severe Sepsis.

Risk factors for Sepsis

  • Pneumonia
  • Kidney infection
  • Infection in the abdomen
  • Bloodstream infection

The Aspira advantage

India’s premier fully automated pathlab and diagnostic centre, Aspira is a leading resource for rapid and accurate diagnosis of various ailments. Apart from general Sepsis tests as mentioned earlier, Aspira also brings other critical cutting edge tests for improved diagnosis and treatment.

Sepsis Panel (Only Lab in MUMBAI processing EAA)

  • Interleukin-6(IL-6): Early indicator of inflammatory response to illness which rises within hours of substantial infection such as with the onset of SIRS and sepsis.
  • Endotoxin Activity Assay (EAA): Result more than or equal to 0.6 is indicative of Endotoxemia.
