Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common virus for people of all ages; however, a healthy person’s immune system usually keeps the virus from causing illness.
A positive test for CMV IgG indicates that a person has been infected with CMV at some point in their life, but does not indicate when.
Such individuals are potentially at risk of transmitting CMV infection through different modes. Positive CMV IgM results indicate a recent infection which may be primary or reactivation / re-infection.
