- A reticulocyte count test is prescribed by a doctor to measure the level of reticulocytes in your blood.
- Reticulocytes are immature red blood cells. In the process of red blood cell formation, reticulocytes develop and mature in the bone marrow and then circulate for about a day in the blood stream before developing into mature red blood cells.
- A reticulocyte count can help your doctor learn if your bone marrow is producing enough red blood cells.
